A history of AMETEK Solidstate Controls

1962
Stu Jackson and John Holscher found Solidstate Controls, Inc. (SCI) in
Columbus, Ohio and begin manufacturing DC power supplies for the electroplating industry.

1964
Solidstate Controls builds first AC power supply - a 1.5 kVA - employing ferroresonant technology.

1965
Solidstate Controls introduces first ferroresonant Scott-T 3-phase transformer.

1970
Solidstate Controls introduces zero-break static transfer switch, making the first truly Uninterruptible Power Supply.

1970
Solidstate Controls begins providing 1-E qualified ferroresonant inverters to the Nuclear Power Generation Industry.

1975
Solidstate Controls develops industrial grade Battery Chargers for the Power Generation market.

1979
Solidstate Controls is purchased by Trans Union and joins forces with Rochester Instruments.

1979
Due to more growth, Solidstate Controls moves to its present location on Dearborn Drive.

1981
A spin-off company - HDR Power is formed by Solidstate Controls' employees.

1981
Solidstate Controls introduces the PowerBase 2000 series UPS.

1985
Solidstate Controls develops static switch crest factor circuit.

1986
Solidstate Controls begins to include a manual maintenance switch with its inverters.

1987
Introduces the SE 1-phase UPS product line.

1989
Solidstate Controls develops UPSCAD® design software, making it possible to create assembly and fabrication drawings and documentation in less than 1/4 the time required by hand.

1992
Solidstate Controls introduces the first ferroresonant based UPS to utilize a uProcessor for control and monitoring.

1993
Solidstate Controls introduces WINUPS™ configuration software allowing Users to configure and cost a complete UPS system in minutes.

1993
Solidstate Controls re-acquires HDR Power Systems.

1994
Solidstate Controls opens its Asia Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong.

1997
Solidstate Controls introduces the 3SE 3-phase UPS product line.

1997
Solidstate Controls opens office in Beijing, China.

1998
Introduces the SEPLUS UPS, SSPLUS inverter, and RCSPLUS Battery Charger products.

1999
Solidstate Contols acquires JCB Electronica Industrial in Rosarion, Argentina. This acquisition gives SCI the capability, unmatched in the industry, to provide both ferroresonant and PWM based inverters and UPS systems to the industrial market.

2000
In February, Solidstate Contols receives ISO 9001 certification for its operations headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

2003
In March, AMETEK acquires then Solidstate Controls, Inc.
George Ardolino is made Business Unit Manager

2004 - 2006
Solidstate Controls expands Columbus, OH personnel.

2007 - 2008
Solidstate Controls introduces CellRx (Battery Management System), IntelliSine( UPS for International Market), IntelliAmp(Battery Charger) and
upgrades ACTS 2000 CPR (Cathodic Protection System)
